Researcher of literature (b. 4 August
1940, İstanbul). She is the daughter of Mehmet Enginün, who served as the
deputy of Edirne from 1950 to 1957, and the sister of Prof. Mine Enginün. She
attended the Ankara Sarar Primary School, TED Ankara College (1959) and
graduated from İstanbul University, Faculty of Literature, Department of
Turkish Language and Literature (1963). She became an assistant at the same
faculty in 1963 and completed her doctorate studies in 1968. She became an
associate professor in 1974 and a professor in 1984. She became a lecturer at
İstanbul University, Faculty of Literature, Department of Turkish Language and
Literature in 1974 and was appointed a member of the senate of Marmara
University, Faculty of Science and Literature in 1984. She served as the member
of the executive board (1982-87) and as the vice-dean (1983-87) at the same
faculty. Furthermore, she became the dean of the Atatürk Institute of Education
(1987-90), head of the Department of Turkish Language and Literature (1991-94)
and manager of the Institute of Turkish (1991-97) at Marmara University and
retired in 1997. She was a member of the executive board of UNESCO Turkish
National Commission between 1988 and 1993. She is a member of Turkish-American
Association for Scientific Research, Turkish Language Association, the
Professional Association of Scientific and Literary Work Owners of Turkey,
Association of Turkish Women of Universities and Association fort he Study of
Turkish Culture.

Turkish National Culture Award in 1981 with Devrin
Yazarlarının Kalemiyle Millî Mücadele ve Gazi Mustafa Kemal (National
Struggle and Gazi Mustafa Kemal from the Articles of the Writers of the Time)
and was elected the Writer of the Year in the criticism category by the Writers
Union of Turkey twice; in 1992 with her work Mukayeseli Edebiyat (Comparative Literature) and in 2000 with Araştırmalar ve Belgeler (Researches and
Documents).
