Polat
Onat was born on October 21, 1979 in Istanbul. He spent his childhood in
Istanbul due to his father's civil service.
His hometown is Bursa.
Onat
started primary school in Bursa. He continued in Gümüşhane. He graduated from
Isparta Şarkikaraağaç Atatürk Primary School in 1990. He completed Isparta
Şarkikaraağaç Secondary School in 1993.
He
started his high school education at Samsun Veterinary Health Vocational High
School. Later, he transferred to Istanbul Selimiye Veterinary Health Vocational
High School. He graduated from high school, which he attended as a free
boarding student, in 1996. In the same year, he won the Department of Classroom
Teaching at Samsun 19 Mayıs University.
While
continuing his university education, he was appointed as a Veterinary Health
Technician to the Elazığ Karakoçan District Directorate of Agriculture in 1998.
He graduated from university in 2000 by both studying and working.
In
2002, he completed his military service for a short period in Erzurum / Ilıca.
In
2003, he applied for a transition to teaching and was appointed to Batman
Sakarya Primary School as a classroom teacher. Afterwards, he started working
at Batman Zübeyde Hanım Primary School in 2010.
He
started writing and publishing poetry in 2000.
His
poems and articles on poetry were published in the magazines: Varlık, E, Heves,
Başka, Kavram Karmaşa, Şiir Ülkesi, Sepya, Budala, Kuzey Yıldızı, İmlasız, Ağır
Ol Bay Düzyazı, Daktilo, Ay, Akatalpa until 2004.

Onat won the Rıfat Ilgaz Poetry Award in 2002.
As
of 2005, he stopped writing in literary magazines, preferring to follow the
magazines as a reader only.
In
2009, his first book "The End" was presented to the reader.
In
2013, five of his poems were translated into English and included in the
selection of Turkish Poetry Today, edited by George Messo.
Polat Onat won the İsmet Kemal Karadayı Poetry
Award in 2017 with his file "Dark Breakfast".
