Yılmaz Öner

Poet, philosopher and translator (b. 12 September 1928, İstanbul). His full name is Mehmet Yılmaz Öner. He attended İstanbul High School for Boys (1946) and graduated from Istanbul University, Faculty of Science, Institute of Mathematics (1951). He also studied at Göttingen University, Department of Mathematics and Physics in Germany (1951-55), Poitiers University, Department of Literature in France (1957-58) and Cambridge University, Department of Foreign Languages in the United Kingdom (1958). He worked as a subject writer and redactor for the Resimli Bilgi Ansiklopedisi (Illustrated Encyclopedia of Information) and Yurt Ansiklopedisi (Encyclopedia of the Homeland) and as a translator at a translation agency. He continued his studies in İstanbul. He is a member of the Writers Syndicate of Turkey.

His articles, particularly on the philosophy of science, have been published in the reviews Yeni Olgu, Doğa-Bilim, Tiyatro Dergisi, Evrensel Kültür and İskenderiye Yazıları since 1979. He has translated many works from western literature and thought.
