Economist, bureaucrat
and politician. He was born on December 17, 1948 in Nazimiye, Tunceli. The
prevous surname of his family was "Karabulut", but as everyone in the
village had the same surname, his father replaced it as
"Kılıçdaroğlu" in 1950s. He completed his primary and secondary
education in several cities and districts such as Erciş, Tunceli, Genc, Elaziğ.
He completed Elaziğ Commerce High School as the first student (1967). He
completed Ankara Economic and Commercial Sciences Academy (Gazi University,
Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences) in 1971.
After graduating
from university, he won the examinations and started to work as a junior
assistant in the Ministry of Finance. Then he became the senior accountant and
stayed in France for one year representing the Ministry of Finance. After
working as a senior accountant until 1983, he was appointed to General
Directorate of Revenues. He worked as office manager and then appointed as Vice
General Director of Revenues. He became Bag-Kur General Director in 1991, Social
Security Institution General Director in 1992. Then he was appointed as Vice
Undersecretary in the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. During the studies
about Eighth Five Year Development Plan, he worked as Hidden Economy Special
Expertise Commission President and gave lectures at Hacettepe University. He
resigned from Social Security General Directorate in 1999.
He worked as
Association to Preserve the Citizens' Tax as chairman and as executive board
member in Turkey Is Bank. Then he joined politics and became the RPP
(Republican People's Party) Istanbul deputy in November 3, 2002 elections into
TGNA. He was elected as Istanbul deputy in July 22, 2007 elections again. While
he was a deputy, he became the candidate for Istanbul Municipality from RPP in
2009 local elections; but he lost the elections. While Kiliçdaroğlu was RPP
Group Deputy Chairman, Deniz Baykal resigned from RPP Presidency and he was
elected as the 7th president of RPP on May 22, 2010 RPP 33rd Ordinary General
Meeting.
Kemal Kiliçdaroğlu
has numerous articles and three occupational books published. He was elected as
the "Bureaucrat of the Year" in 1994 by Economic Trend journal. Musician Onur Akin has composed a song for
Kiliçdaroğlu.
