Poet (b. 8 December 1926, Karaman). He
attended Karaman Gazi Primary School and graduated from Kuleli Military College
(1946) and the War School (1948). He served as a troop officer in various
cities (1948- 59). He graduated from Ankara University, Faculty of Language,
History and Geography during the time he worked in Ankara (1953- 57). He
started to work as a teacher of literature at İstanbul Heybeliada Naval High
School with the rank of captain. He retired in 1979 after having worked as a
teacher of Turkish and literature at the Naval College, the Naval High School,
the Naval Noncommissioned Officer School, Kadıköy Private Marmara College and
Moran High School. He worked as a teacher for twelve years at the Private
German High School after his retirement
He used the divan*
and folk poetry forms in his poems that were mostly written in prosodic and
syllabic meter. The works of Erdoğan, who also wrote poetry in free verse, were
published in the reviews Çınaraltı,
Şadırvan, İstanbul, Türk Yurdu, Kubbealtı Akademi, Hisar, Çağrı Türk Ocağı,
Millî Kültür ve Türk Edebiyatı
(regularly). Necil Kâzım Akses set his poetry to music with which he won the
“50th Anniversary Anthem” Competition. Many of his poems were also set to
music, such as Kışlada Bahar (Spring
at the Barracks). Besides his poetry, he is also a calligrapher and has
produced framed calligraphy inscriptions. In 2000, he was given an honorary
doctorate by Fırat University for his works.
