Historian
of literature (b. 1936, Saray village / Perşembe / Ordu – d. 15 July 1987,
İstanbul) He attended primary school in the village in which he was born. He
started secondary school education at Ordu Secondary School, continued at Afyon
High School and finished at Haydarpaşa High School (1956). He graduated from Istanbul
University, Department of Turkish Language and Literature (1962). He became the
assistant of Prof. Ali Tarlan in the Department of Ancient Turkish Literature
in the faculty that he had graduated from. He was promoted to assistant
professor in 1978 and to professor in 1984. At times he did scientific research
in the United Kingdom and Scotland (1970-72).
His final post was at Mimar Sinan
University, Faculty of Literature. Besides his Divan* literature lessons in the
Chair of Ancient Turkish Literature he also published research works that
interpreted ancient literature with modern evaluations. In ancient Turkish
literature he was regarded as a representative of the traditions of Ali Nihat
Tarlan.
