Theologian (b. 10 April 1960, Sağrak village / Sütçüler /
Isparta). He attended Sağrak Village Primary School, the Isparta İmam Hatip
High School (1979) and graduated from Dokuz Eylül University, Faculty of
Theology (1984). He went to the United Kingdom with a scholarship from the
Turkish Foundation for Religious Affairs in January 1985. He received his PhD
at Manchester University, Near East Studies (1960, doctorate at London
University, School of Oriental and African Studies, Department of History, 1991).
His PhD thesis was "The Establishment of Anglo-Egyptian Rule in the
Sudan (1890-1914) and his doctorate thesis was "Dutch Policy towards Islam
in Indonesia, 1945-49". When he returned to Turkey, he worked for the
Turkish Foundation for Religious Affairs Islamic Research Center for two years
(1991-93).
He was appointed to Süleyman Demirel University and became associate
professor in 1998 and a professor in September 2004 at the same department.
Göksoy became assistant dean at Süleyman Demirel University, Faculty of
Theology in 2003 and has worked in management positions in different
departments of the institution. He has been involved in national and
international symposiums. He has presented communiqués on the theme “The
Prophet Mohammed’s View of Government and Some Examples of His Implementation”.
Göksoy's studies are generally about Muslim societies in Southeastern Asia. He
speaks English, Dutch, Indonesian and Arabic. His articles and translations
have been published in SDÜ İlahiyat
