Mehmed Nâzım Paşa

Devlet Adamı, Şair

Poet and statesman (b. 1840, İstanbul - d. 1926, İstanbul). He is the grandfather of the poet Nazım Hikmet. After finishing high school, he worked as a general secretary in Adana, Konya, Bitlis, Halep, Kastamonu and Mersin for a while. He was appointed as the Governor of the Sub-District of Kayseri in 1898.  Within the four years he served in Kayseri, he had the domes of Hunat Mosque and the tombs of Seyyid Burhaneddin and Zeynel Abidin repaired and carried out various important tasks. After Kayseri, he served as the Governor of Diyarbakır, Halep, Konya, Sivas and Thessalonica.  He was connected to the Sufi Cult. Other than this work Ahdi Şehriyari (Contract of the Sultanate), which discussed improvements in the field of education during the rule of Abdulhamid, his works related to Sufism were published
