Writer (b. 29 October 1932,
İstanbul). After she married the caricaturist Turhan Selçuk (1958), she used
Füruzan Selçuk as a pen name for a while. She attended Yalova Demir Village
Primary School (1946) and after she was educated in different towns. She left
secondary school and became a theater actor for a while and later she devoted
herself fully to literature.
Füruzan, whose style was
based mainly on observation and realism, published her first stories in the
reviews Seçilmiş
Hikâyeler, Türk Dili and Pazar Postası (1956-58); the works from
her most skillful period were published in the reviews Dost, Papirüs and Yeni Dergi (1964-72). Her first
storybook Parasız Yatılı (Free Boarder) won the 1971 Sait Faik Story
Award and her first novel 47'liler (The 47 Generation) won the 1974
Turkish Language Association Novel Award. Parasız Yatılı (Free Boarder)
was adapted for the cimema.
