Poet and writer (b. 1939,
Lachin village / Kalbajar / Azerbaijan). His full name is Muhtar oğlu Memmed Aslan. He lost his
father when he was little. His mother took him to Karabağ and he started to
work as an assistant shepherd near a peasant from his relatives. Memmed Aslan
learned reading and writing in those years and after completing primary and
secondary schools, he graduated from Azerbaijan State Pedagogy Institute, Department of
Philology in1962. He worked as a teacher in
Kalbajar for six years. Between the years 1968 and 1970, he worked as the
responsible director of the newspaper Yenilik.
After migrating to Baku in 1970, he worked in the periodicals and newspapers
such as Ulduz, Azerbaycan Tebieti, Güneş,
Edebiyat and İncesanatand in the Yazıcı Publishinghouse and in State Radio and
Television Corporation. In addition to being a poet, he kept on with writings
on social and political subjects and his translations. He won the first runner
up award in the poetry contest organized in Turkey in 1994.
