Ömer Ferid Kam

Writer (b. 1864, Beylerbeyi / İstanbul – d. 21 May 1944). He completed his primary and elementary education in Beylerbeyi Elementary School. He educated at the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Law but discontinued. He completed his education with private lessons. He started his working career as a civil servant at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Translation Office in 1887. He passed the exam that was made after one year and he became a teacher of French at Beylerbeyi Elementary School in 1888. He worked as a professor of Turkish Literature at İstanbul University and General History of Philosophy at Süleymaniye Madrasah in 1917 and he was appointed to the İstanbul University, the Faculty of Letters as a professor of text explanation (1919). He lived jobless for a time after the National Struggle. He worked as a member of Ministry of Canonical Law and Religious Foundations, the Council of Classification and Publication of Islamic Works until it was abolished. He was appointed to the İstanbul University, Department of Persian Literature as a professor. He was taken out of office as well as his many friends at the university reform in 1933. He was appointed to the Ankara University, Faculty of Language, History and Geography, Department of Persian Literature as a lecturer. He died after one year while he was at this post.

His articles were published in the reviews Sırat-ı Mustakim and Sebilür-reşad. Ferid Kam who wrote poems in Turkish, Arabian and Persian worked closely on the old Turkish Literature, Persian and Arabian Literature, general philosophy and Islam philosophy.
