Writer (b. 8 October 1943, Gaziantep). He graduated from Urfa High
School (1967) and İstanbul University, Faculty of Literature, Department of
Turkish Language and Literature (1972). He began to work as a researcher and
writer on the weekly newspaper İttihad
in 1967 and continued with the newspaper Yeni
Nesil and at Yeni Asya Publications. He worked as a Turkish literature
teacher at Erenköy Güneş High School (1987-90) and at Gaziantep Primary School.
His first
article was published in the newspaper Yeni
Ülke (Gaziantep) in the year 1962, and in the following years his articles
and interviews were published in the reviews and newspapers Hareket (Erzurum), Zülfikar, Uhuvvet (İzmir),
Yeni İstiklâl, Babıalide Sabah, İttihad, Yeni Asya and Yeni Nesil.
Şahiner, who is known for his extensive research regarding Bediüzzaman Said
Nursi, won the Encouragement Award of the Foundation of Turkish National
Culture with the first volume of his work called Son Şahitler Bediüzzaman Said Nursi'yi Anlatıyor (The Last Witnesses Describe Said Nursi, 1978).
His studies about Bediüzzaman have been translated into English, Urdu, Indian,
Malaysian and Arabic and have been used as resources for research in twelve
countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Iraq and
Egypt. In addition to his books about this subject, he produced a special issue
about Bediüzzaman for the periodical Köprü,
on which he worked as editor-in-chief (March, 1986).
