Lütfi Paşa
Historian (b. 1488? - d. 1562, Dimetoka / Greece). He was of Albanian origin. He was brought up during the reign of Beyazid II, under strict education at the Enderun (the palace school). He served in different offices during the time of Yavuz Sultan Selim and he was ranked as high as flag bearer, Governor, Vizier and Grand Vizier several times (1539). After he had disputes with his wife, who was the sister of Kanuni Sultan Süleyman, his marriage was dissolved and he was taken out of office. He was put on a monthly salary and was put under house arrest in Dimetoka (1541). During the last days of his life, he engaged himself only in writing. Lütfi Paşa, who was also a poet, left two great works, which are the reasons for his importance: Tevârih-i Âli-i Osman (The History of the Exalted Ottoman) a history book and Âsâfname (The Book of Âsâf) on the corruption of tradition.
