Historian of Islam (b. 1947, İzmir). He attended primary school in İzmir. He graduated from İzmir İmam Hatip School (1966) and Izmir Higher Institute of Islam (1970). He worked as a teacher at Manisa İmam Hatip High School (1970-74) and İzmir Atatürk High School (1974-75). He completed his PhD with İslâm Kurumları Tarihi (History of the Religious Institutions of Islam) at Atatürk University, Faculty of Islamic Sciences in 1978. He worked as a university lecturer on Turkish Civilization at Erzurum Higher Institute of Islam (1975-79) and as a university lecturer and as an assistant director at İzmir Higher Institute of Islam (1979-82). This institute became the Faculty of Theology attached to Dokuz Eyül University under Law No. 2547 of the Higher Education System Law on 20 July 1982 and he was appointed as an academician to the Main Science Branch of the History of Islam and as assistant dean and Chairman of the Department of the Civilization of Islam and Social Sciences at the same faculty. In 1983, he became assistant professor and in 1989 he became an associate professor in the History of Islam Main Science Branch, Civilization and Culture of Islam. He became professor in 1995. In Iraq in 1973 and in Tunisia between 1984 and 1986, on scholarships that the Iraqi and Tunisian governments gave to the Turkish government, he studied and enhanced his knowledge, social education and specialization. Between 1999 and 2002 he served as assistant dean for a second time. He continued as Chairman of the History of Islam Main Science Branch in the same faculty.

His PhD thesis was Gelibolulu Mustafa Ali ve Mevâidü'n-Nefais fi Kavaidü'l-Mecalis. (Mustafa Ali of Gelibolu and the Delicious Tables in the Rules of Councils) His first article titled Dilenci Çocuklar (Beggar Kids) was published in the newspaper Babıalide Sabah in 1967. In the following years he published his works, in addition to the same newspaper, in the reviews Mücadele (1967-69), Gurbet (1967-69), Diyanet (1973-), İslâm Medeniyeti, Fikir ve Sanatta Hareket, Türk Dünyası Araştırmaları, Ekin, İslâmî Araştırmalar, Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi İlahiyat Fakültesi (1987) and in the newspapers Yeni Asır and the encyclopedias Diyanet (Religion). Türk Dili ve Edebiyatı Ansiklopedisi (Turkish Language and Literature Encyclopedia, published by Dergâh), İslâmî Bilgiler Ansiklopedisi (Islamic Knowledge Encyclopedia, published by Dergâh) and TDV İslâm Ansiklopedisi (The Turkish Foundation for Religious Affairs’s Islamic Encyclopedia).

In 1971, he won the second prize in the competition held by the newspaper Milliyet related to the subject "Turkish Anatolia" with his research Fetihlerle Anadolu'nun Türkleşmesi ve İslâmlaşması (Becoming Turkish and Becoming Islam in Anatolia through Conquest). He received an honorable mention in the competition held by the Ministry of Culture related to “Research About The Culture of Akhism” with his work İbn Batuta'ya Göre Anadolu'nun Sosyal Kültürel ve İktisadi Hayatı ile Ahilik (The Social, Cultural and Economic Life of Anatolia and Akhism according to İbn Batuta) in 1991. He has participated in congresses, symposiums and discussion panels abroad and in Turkey. He has also made studies on Ottoman Paleography.

In addition, he has prepared collections and simplifications.
