Playwright. He was born
on November 29, 1947 in Kırşehir. He graduated from Ankara University, Faculty
of Languages, History and Geography, Department of Theater (1974). He completed
his masters’ degree at the same department. He worked as theater expert at
Hacettepe University, Institute of Music and Fine Arts, Theater Branch
(1974-1983). His first play, named Dağların
Türküsü was staged here under the name “Keklik”.
He began to work as a dramaturgist at State Theaters in 1983.
His first play staged at
professional level is “Batakhane Güzeli”. Batakhane
Güzeli was also awarded in TOBAV’s play contest; and it was staged at Izmir
Public Theater, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus State Theater, and in
different cities of Turkey such as Zonguldak, Samsun, İstanbul, Düzce, Kayseri.
Canatan was involved in directing during his university years and afterwards; and
he also wrote articles on theater in journals such as Türk Dili, Sanat
Rehberi, Adam Sanat. He received
the Youth Play Award of Çankaya Municipality with his play named Dağların
Türküsü.

individual, his incompatibility with the outer world, his inactivity against
the circumstances, his activity in a sense, and the resistance of women against
