Researcher and writer (b. 1912, Florina
/ Greece). He also wrote under the pen names such as Çelenklioğlu, Macit Demir
and Terzioğlu. He graduated from Istanbul University, Faculty of Literature,
Department of Turkish Language and Literature (1933). He became an assistant at
the Ankara University, Faculty of Language, History and Geography after having
worked as a teacher at various high schools and vocational schools. He
completed his PhD in 1949, became an associate professor in 1962 and professor.
He was the Director of the Turkish Language and Literature Institution within
the framework of Hacettepe University, Faculty of Social and Administrative
Sciences.
He started his literary career with
poetry and published his first poetry book Şair
Bozuntuları (So Called Poets) with his friends. He had his articles
published in reviews such as Türk Yurdu and Folklor Araştırmaları. Elçin, who is
known for his research on folklore, shared the İhsan Hinçer Service to Turkish
Folklore Award in 1983 with Metin And, Cahit Güzel bey, Kemal Gökçe and Haşim
Nezihi Okay. He won the 1984 Turkiye İş Bankası Folklore Science Grand Award
with his book Halk Edebiyatına Giriş (Introduction
to Folklore) and the Writers Union of Turkey Grand Eminent Services Award in
2003.
