Poet and writer (b. 11
December 1940 -registered 30 January 1941-, Urfa). He attended Karagümrük
Primary School and graduated from İstanbul Haydarpaşa High School (1961). He
discontinued his studies at İstanbul University, Faculty of Literature,
Department of Sociology. He worked as a manager at a transport company and went
on to write commercial texts and to be a director before retiring.
His first poem was
published in the review Yelken in 1958. His poems and critiques were
frequently published in Yelken (1958-61), Ataç (general editor,
1961-64), Yeni Gerçek (general editor, 1967-68), Gelecek
(founder, 1971), Varlık (1968), Gerçek Sanat, İnsancıl and the
newspaper Evrensel. He was awarded an honorable mention at the Hasan
Tahsin Poetry Contest in 1979 with his poem named Miting
(Demonstration). He collected the Ceyhun Atuf Kansu Poetry Award in 2004 with
his poem Yalnız Karanfil Sokağı (Lonely Carnation Street). Some of his
poems have been included in anthologies in Russian, Bulgarian, Rumanian,
Arabian, English and French. He was a member of the Workers Party of Turkey
(1964-71), the Turkish Authors Association (1968-71), the Association of
Artists in Turkey (1970-71), the Writers Syndicate of Turkey (1999), the PEN
Association of Writers (1998) and the Nazım Hikmet Foundation, in some of which
he had managerial duties.
