Poet (b. 17 June 1952, Ankara). He started his
elementary and secondary education in Eskişehir in 1959, but completed it in
Ankara. In 1970, he attended Middle East Technical University, however he
dropped at the second grade, and moved to İstanbul. Since his juvenile years,
he was interested in the ideological line of the Workers Party of Turkey. His
first article titled Brecht ve
Epik Tiyatro (Brecht
and Epic Theatre) was published in the review Liseli Gençlik, where he
was among the founders. A poet of the 1970 generation, his first poem Issız
Gül (Desolate Rose) was published in the Yeni Dergi directed by Memet
Fuat in 1973. Besides Yeni Dergi, his poems were published in the
reviews Militan, Sanat Emeği, Hürriyet Gösteri and Adam Sanat, and
on the arts page of the newspaper Politika, which he edited. He
collected the Cemal Süreya Poetry Award in 1996 with his book titled Bitik
Kent (The Exhausted City). He made translations from Federico Garcia
Lorca, Konstantinos Kavafis, Pablo Neruda, Z. Herbert, Guillevic and Catullus.
