Researcher of literature (b. 1947, Alan / Konya). He attended primary school in village and elementary school in Konya. He graduated from Istanbul University, Faculty of Letters, Department of Turkish Language and Literature (1974). His masters thesis was on "Samiha Ayverdi'nin Eserlerinde Millî Kültür Meseleleri ve Tasavvuf Düşüncesi." (Mysticism and National Culture Issues in the Works of Samiha Ayverdi). He started his work career in 1974 and worked as a teacher of literature at Adapazarı İmam Hatip High School and as a librarianship at İstanbul University, Faculty of Letters, Institute of Turkology. He was appointed to the department where he graduated from, as a lecturer in 1975. Besides his office at the institute, he gave lectures of Turkish Composition at İstanbul University, Faculty of Dentistry, lectures of literature and Turkish – Composition at High Technical Teacher School, lectures of Islamic Turkish Literature and Turkish- Composition at High Institute of Islam between 1975 and 1981. He was appointed to İstanbul University, Faculty of Letters, Department of Modern Turkish Literature as an assistant. He completed his PhD with the thesis "Talîm-i Edebiyat'ın Rhètorique ve Edebiyat Nazariyatı Sahasına Getirdiği Yenilikler" (Innovations That Literature Practice Brought to Rhetoric and Literature Theory) in 1981.
He became an assistant professor in 1985, associate professor in 1988 and professor in 1993. He became chairman of the Department of Modern Turkish Literature at the faculty where he worked and chairman of the Department of Turkish Language and Literature in 1996.He worked as a guest professor at Doğu Akdeniz University, Faculty of Science and Letters, Department of Turkish Language and Literature in 1999-2000 term. He is still working at İstanbul University, Faculty of Letters, Department of Turkish Language and Literature as a professor of Modern Turkish Literature. He is a member of Yahya Kemal Institute and the Turkish Language Association Science Commission that is within the framework of Atatürk High Society of Culture Language and History.
He started his writing career in the review Konya’da Biz and published his work in the reviews such as Kubbealtı Akademi Mecmuası, Türk Edebiyatı, Türk Dili, Türk Dünyası Tarih Dergisi, Türk Dünyası Araştırmaları, Türk Dili Araştırmaları Yıllığı, Yeni Türkiye Dergisi and the newspaper Tercüman since 1978. He wrote articles for Turkish Religious Foundation Religious Encyclopedia. He participated in symposiums on his field and gave papers.
