Cihat Burak
Painter, architect and storywriter (b. 8 August 1915, İstanbul – d. 4 March 1994, İstanbul). He attended the Galatasaray High School and graduated from Istanbul Academy of Fine Arts, Department of Architecture (1943). He was sent to Paris on a scholarship by the United Nations in 1952. He worked as an architect at Tekel General Directorate and at the Ministry of Public Works. He designed many important buildings of Turkey such as the Government House in Gaziantep, the Court House in İzmir, Bank-note Issuing House in Ankara, the Court House in Rize and Beşiktaş Şair Nedim Primary School. After a while, he left his duty at the ministry and focused on painting. After 1965, he held various exhibitions in Turkey and abroad.
With his works of art, he collected the Utrillo Award (France) in 1964, the Award of Contemporary Painters Association of Turkey in 1967, the State Painting and Statute Exhibition Achivement Award in 1973, the Sedat Simavi Foundation Painting Award in 1982, and the Yunus Nadi Unpublished Short Story Award in 1992 with his story titled Yakutiler (The Yakutis).
