Celal Sahir Erozan
Poet (b. 1863, İstanbul – d. 16 November 1935). After attending the Vefa Primary School, he studied at the School of Law for a while. However, he quitted his studies here and worked as a civil officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affaris (1903). Later on he worked as a teacher at İstanbul Mercan and Kabataş High Schools and engaged in trade during the late years of World War I (1917-18). He was elected as the deputy of Zonguldak in 1928 and became a member of the Commission of Supervision of Turkish Language. He is buried in Bakırköy Graveyard.
Primarily on love and women, the works of Celal Sahir appeared in İrtika, Malumat, Musavver Fen ve Edeb, Lisan with the pen names Ahmet Celal and Şarih. His first poem with his real name was published in Servet-i Fünûn (October, 1899). He used a plain language with the influence of the National Literature movement. His poems with syllabic and free meter appeared in the review Halka Doğru, which he published. He also wrote articles for the movement of "New Language" in the newspaper Hak.
