Playwright (b. 1853, Bursa - d. 9
September 1911). He grew up with private tutoring. When he was only fifteen
years old, he began to work as a civil servant in the Bursa Provincial Office
of Correspondence (1867). He served as the director of the newspaper and
printing at Hüdavendigar (1872-98) and as teacher of literature and
etiquette at Bursa High School (1892-96). He published Nilüfer (the
first review in Bursa, 1885-91, 60 issues) and Güünndoğdu at the
printing press he had established. He assisted with the theatre studies of
Ahmet Vefik Paşa who was provincial governor (1892-97). He gave lectures on
Turkish diction and literature to the actors of the Fasulyaciyan Ensemble in
Bursa. It was noted that he tried to provide a balance between the East and the
West in the articles published in his reviews.
He wrote six plays influenced by
the adapted works of Ahmet Vefik Paşa. His career as a playwright was praised
and he was dubbed the "Moliere of the Tanzimat*" (Metin And), the
"Turkish Moliere"(Cevdet Kudret, Behçet Necatigil) by the
contemporary critics of literature and theatre. The critics based their
appreciation not only on the skill that Feraizcizade showed in his play
technique but also on his efforts to simplify the language that he used.
