Writer and translator (b. 1921, İstanbul - d. 1978). She
was a graduate of Galatasaray High School and Ankara University, Faculty of
Political Science (1944). She entered the faculty she had graduated form as an
assistant of public law, she became assistant professor (1948) and then
professor of international law (1954). In the same year, she was a legal
advisor to the Turkish representatives at the in London Conference held in
relation to the dispute over the Suez Canal. Meral, who became Rector of Ankara
University in 1961, attended international academic meetings. She served as
special advisor to the United Nations Turkish Committee (1965), and was a
member of the UNESCO National Committee Administration Board of Turkey (1969).
With her translation Savaş ve Barış
(War and Peace by Hugo Grotius), she won the Turkish Language Association
Translation Award in 1968.
