Storywriter (b. 1 February 1930,
Fertek village / Niğde). He discontinued his studies at Pertevniyal High School
and worked in various places. He began to work at the Soil Products Office in
1951 and officially retired in 1970. Then he spent his time writing his novels,
stories and diaries.
His stories began to be
published in the journal Son Telgraf
(1945-53), where he worked as a janitor. And then they were published in the
periodicals Yeditepe (1953), Kaynak, Yenilik. He published a poetry book with two of his friends. In his
stories he wrote about the lives of poor people who lived on the outskirts of
İstanbul. He also wrote novels and memoirs after 1967.
In the mid-40s his first magazine stories began to be published. In 1946, he won a story competition held by the newspaper Tanin and in 1959 he was chosen as the favorite storywriter of the year by the periodical Dost. He won the Turkish Language Association Award with his short story Bulanık Resimler (Muddy Pictures) in 1962 and he won the Sait Faik Short Story Award with Kavga (The Fight). He came first in a story competition held by the periodical Otağ with Kuyularda (In the Deep Holes) and won the Yunus Nadi Award and Haldun Taner Award in 1994 with Yüzün Yarısı Gece (Half the Face is Dark).
