Novelist (b. 23 April 1915, İstanbul). Her family name is Yonsel. She is a graduate of Samsun Secondary School and İstanbul Sainte-Pulcherie Private French High School. After working at the Electricity Company and the Publications Bureau (1940-44), she went to Switzerland (1944). She worked as a secretary at the Office of the Press Attaché in Bern. After returning to İstanbul, she worked at the Press Association and the review Yeni İstanbul.

Her first story, Ak Kız (The Unsullied Girl) was published in Yedigün review (1935). Later her stories, novels and interviews were serialized in the journals Son Posta, Cumhuriyet, Tan and Milliyet. She became popular with her romantic and adventure novels published in the 1950s. Firstly producing attractive and crowd- pleasing novels such as Sönen Alev (Extinguishing Fire) and Yaz Yağmuru (Summer Rain), Peride Celal became more creative in her novel Üç Kadının Romanı (A Novel of Three Women, 1954) and in her following works. With her accurate and fluent use of Turkish, her ability to express details and to develop various characters and events, she produced valuable works. She won the Sedat Simavi 1977 Literature Award with her novel Üç Yirmidört Saat (Three Twenty Four Hours, 1977) and the Orhan Kemal, 1992 Novel Award with her work Kurtlar (Wolves). She traveled to Switzerland, France and Italy, married Atıf Yonsel and has two children Zeynep Ergun and Refet. She speaks French and is a member of the PEN Association of Writers, the Writers Syndicate of Turkey and the Turkish Authors Association.
