Scholar and
politician (b. 1357, Simavna / Edirne
- d. 1420, Serez). He began his education with lessons from his father İsmail
Efendi and continued at schools in Bursa and Konya. He took private
lessons in Jerusalem, Mecca
and Egypt.
He later worked as a teacher for the princes at the palace. When he returned
home, he was appointed as a judge in the period of Musa Çelebi. He was exiled
to İznik by Mehmet Çelebi, who had usurped Musa Çelebi in the struggle for the
sultanate. Due to his increasing support in İznik and regarding the public
criticism of this as a threat, the Sultan sent troops on his caliphs. His
caliph, Börklüce Mustafa and his supporters were killed in the province of Karaburun. His other caliph, Torlak
Kemal was seized in Manisa and immediately executed. Bedreddin tried to flee to
Turkmenistan,
however he failed. According to a rumor, he was captured by the troops of
Mehmet Çelebi and was executed in the town of Serez. He is famous for his work, Vâridat
(Inspirations) and the epic written about him by Nazım Hikmet in the Republican
period.
