Poet and writer (b. 1925, Kızıluşağı
village / Arapkir / Malatya – d. October 1995, İstanbul). He graduated from
Ankara University, Faculty of Law (1950). He worked as a journalist, lawyer,
and teacher. He took part in administrators of Union Party as a Secretary
General (1969).
His poems that were published in
periodical Çınaraltı for the first
time in 1943, took part in his own publications Kervan (1947) and Çadır
(1949-50) and his humorous writings took part in periodical Akbaba. He published periodical Şiir Defteri as from 1989.
He gained a reputation with his poem “Anayasso” (Constitution, 1968), which reflected successively
the problems of people of Eastern Anatolia and which was also adapted to stage
later. Belli, who was a representative of his own lyrism, majored on the
subjects love, nostalgia, youth in his poems in which humor and popular saying
stood in the forefront. These poems, which included problems of mountain and
country life, made him gain a reputation that can not be regarded as little in
comparison to his conditions.
