Writer (b. 1
February 1934, İstanbul – d. 1989). He completed his elementary education at
Galatasaray and Işık
High Schools (1954). He
graduated from Istanbul
University, Faculty of
Literature, Department of French Language and Literature (1958) and became an
assistant at the same department (1959). He received his PhD (1964) and became
an associate professor (1970) and professor (1977). He served as chairman of
the same department. He was Vice Chairman of İstanbul University, Institute of Atatürk Principles and Revolution
History between 1985 and 1989 and was appointed to this institute as chairman
in 1989.
He became known
for his works on linguistics. His works enabled linguistics to become known and
prevalent. He translated many linguistics terms into Turkish. He administrated
the review Dilbilim (1976-81), which
was published in Turkish and French once a year from 1976.
