Historian
of Islam (b. 5 May 1957, Demirceli village / Reşadiye / Tokat). He attended
primary school in his village (1969) and secondary school (1972) in his home
town. He graduated from Gümüşhane Maraşal Çakmak Teacher Training School (1976)
and from Ankara University, Faculty of Islamic Sciences (1982). He began to
work as a research assistant at the Department of Islamic History in 1983. He
became a doctor with his thesis titled "Endülüs'te
Müvelledûn Hareketleri" (The Müvelledûn Movements in Andalusia),
became an assistant professor in 1993 and a professor in 2000. He stayed in
Egypt and Spain for one year each to make research on his field. For a while,
he attended as the vice-dean of the Faculty of Islamic Sciences. He still works
at the Department of Islamic History in the same faculty. He speaks Spanish and
Arabian.
His
first article, “Gayr-i Müslimlerin Dinî
Hayatı Açısından Müslüman Fatihlerin Endülüs'teki Uygulamaları” (The Acts
of the Muslim Conquerors with Respect to the Religious Life of the Non-Muslims)
was published in 1992. Later, his articles about the History of Islam, the
Methodology of the History of Islam, the History of Spreading of Islam, the
History of Andalusia and the Moors were published in the reviews A.Ü. İlâhiyat Fakültesi Dergisi, İslâmiyât,
Kayıtlar, İslâmî Araştırmalar, Dinî Araştırmalar and Türk Yurdu. He attended national and international symposiums
about his field and presented communiqués.
