Prof. Dr. Erol Yılmaz, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Üniversitesi Mühendislik ve Mimarlık Fakültesi, İnşaat Mühendisliği, Geoteknik Anabilim Dalı bünyesinde görev yapmaktadır. Çalışma alanları: Geoteknik, İnşaat Mühendisliği, Zemin Mekaniği, Maden Mühendisliği ve Teknolojisi, Maden İşletmesi, Mühendislik ve Teknoloji.
Lisans (İstanbul Üniversitesi, 2000), yüksek lisans (Karadeniz Teknik Üniversitesi, 2003) ve doktora (Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue, 2010) eğitimlerini tamamladı. Doktora tezi: "Investigating the hydrogeotechnical and microstructural properties of cemented paste backfill using the CUAPS apparatus" (2010).
