Science historian, philosopher. She
was born in 1941, Ankara. She graduated from Ankara University (1964), received
the title of literature doctor in 1971. She was in England between the years 1973-74
with a scholarship and conducted research at Well Come Institute and British
Library. She attended lectures at Cambridge University, Department of
Philosophy in 1974, she conducted research in France, Paris Bibliotheque
Nationale on her area in the second half of 1974. She became an associate
professor in 1977 and a professor in 1982. She taught undergraduate and
graduate courses in Gazi University Faculty of Education between the years
1984-1986 and at the Department of Philosophy in 1988-1990. She taught at the
Philosophy and History departments of METU between the years 1997-2000. She was
the vice dean at DTCF in 1986 and as the department head in the same faculty
between 1994and 1997, has also worked as a consultant in Ministry of Culture,
Office of Publications. She is a member of Ataturk Cultural Center,
International Medical History Institution, International History of Science
Institution, Turkish Science of History Institution and Turkish Philosophy
Association. He attended to several national and international meetings. She
has eighteen published books and more than seventy articles. Her articles were
published in journals such as Belleten,
OTAM, Erdem, Bilge, DTCF Dergisi, Avicenna, Tanzimat, Felsefe Dünyası,
Araştırma (Felsefe); and she also wrote chapters for books in foreign
languages. She continued her studies in DTCF Department of Philosophy, Ankara
University as a lecturer and as department chair.
Prof. Dr. Esin Kahya has
participated in several national and international meetings about her subject
and took part in the organization committees of Fifth Turkish Medical History
Congress in GATA (1998), along with several congresses organized by Ataturk
Culture Center.
Aydin Sayılı has taught only three
doctoral students in Ankara University. Sevim Tekeli was among them for the
field of history of astronomy, Esin Kahya on history of natural sciences and
Melek Dosay on history of mathematics.
