Composer, tunesmith (B. 6
August 1900, Drama – D. 19 January 1992, Istanbul). Since he was left-handed,
he was known as “Yesarî” (left-handed). After completing his secondary
education in Drama he migrated to Istanbul
and from there to Adapazarı. He received his first music lessons at the age of
sixteen in Adapazarı. Although his father opposed him, he did not become
distant from music. First he took lessons of bağlama (instrument with
three double strings) and later he developed himself in oud and violin.
In 1920 he started to work
in a ship agency in Antalya.
Later he worked in various professions in Izmit and Istanbul. He entered environments of music
and had the opportunity to meet famous musicians of the period. Arsoy attracted
attention of people with his songs he composed in 1929 and he started to
release records and give concerts. Arsoy worked at the Istanbul Radio for a short period
in 1954 and he has more than two hundred works which have survived till today.
