Storywriter (b. 26 January 1948, Ayvalık / Balıkesir). She received
primary and secondary school education in Ayvalık. She graduated from İzmir
High School for Girls (1966) and İstanbul University Faculty of Literature,
Department of Turkish Language and Literature (1971). She worked as a teacher
of literature at İzmir Kemalpaşa and Karataş High Schools (1971-81) and the
Advanced Teachers School (1981-84). She resigned in 1984 because she opposed
the consolidation policies of the Higher Education Institude. She later worked
as a teacher at a private school.
Firstly, she wrote poems with the pen name Feyza Baran,
then she took up writing stories. Her first story was published in the review Türk Dili
in 1979. Later on her stories were published in reviews such as Sesimiz,
Öğretmen Dünyası, Yaba and Dönemeç. She wrote
contemporary articles in her column Dilim
Dilim in the review E. She won
the Ministry of Culture Children’s Play Contest Achievement Award with her play
Yanlışlıklar (Mistakes), the Akademi
Publishing House Short Story Award in 1981 (with Fazlı Yalçın) with her work Sabah Yolcuları (Morning Passengers),
the third prize at the Sıtkı Dost Children’s Novel Contest in 1985 with, Uçtu Uçtu Pelin Uçtu (Flew, Flew Pelin Flew), the third prize in ENKA Science and Art Awards
in 1985 with her story Eski Bir Balerin (An Old Ballerina), the Sait Faik Story Award in 1986 with the same
book and the Sedat Simavi Literature Award in 1997 with Savrulmalar
(The Scattered).
