Literature researcher (b. 11
November 1912, Kayalar / Cuma / Greece - d. 30 September 1992, İstanbul). He is
a member of a family who migrated to İstanbul because of the Balkan War. He
attended Büyükçekmece Primary School (1924) İstanbul Teacher Training School
(1930), and graduated from Ankara University, Faculty of Language, History and
Geography, Department of French Language and Literature (1940). He worked as a
primary school teacher in Çam village in the district of Germencik for five years.
He studied at the Gazi Education Institute as a boarder for some time and then
left school.
In 1956,
after he did his doctorate degree, he was appointed as lecturer at Atatürk
University, Faculty of Literature (1961). He gave New Turkish Literature lessons
here as an associate professor (1964) and as a professor (1970) and retired in
1975. His collections, translation studies and articles were published in
journals such as Ülkü, İstanbul, Ölçü,
Akis, Yeditepe, as well as in the
journals of the faculty. He is renowned for his researches on Turkish
literature and theater.
