Researcher and writer (b. 1941, İspir /
Erzurum – d. 10 October 2013, Ankara). He attended primary and secondary schools
in İspir and Karabük Iron-Steel High School. He graduated from Ankara
University, Faculty of Law and from the Faculty of Economics, School of
Journalism. He worked as the parliament correspondent and Ankara representative
of the newspaper Bâbıâlide Sabah (1965-68). Later on, he worked as
an editor at the Ötüken Publishing House. In 1970, he began to work as a legal
practitioner. He joined the Nationalist Movement Party in 1975 and later became
the general secretary of the party. In 1977, he was elected as a parliamentary
deputy from Erzurum. 1981. He was imprisoned for eighteen months after being
tried at the case of the Nationalist Movement Party and Association of Ideals
but was later acquitted. After being released, he gave up politics and engaged
himself in scientific research and publishing. He continued working as a member
of the Turkish Associations Committee for Culture and as the Chairman of the
Turkish Associations Foundation for Education and Culture.
His articles were published in the
reviews Söğüt and Ocak, where he was the editor, and in Türk Yurdu. He supervised the Türkiye Dışındaki Türk Edebiyatları Projesi (Project
on Turkish Literature outside Turkey). The first 19 volumes of this work, which
is planned to be 32 volumes when finished, have been recently completed. In
addition, he published the Büyük Türk
Klasikleri (Great Turkish Classics) in 12 volumes.
