Poet
and writer (b. 29 May 1940, Karaman). He has used the pen name Meftunî in some
of his poems. He attended Kayseri Etiler Primary School (1951), Bursa Çelebi
Mehmet Secondary School (1954) and graduated from Bursa High School for Boys
(1958) and Ankara University Faculty of Theology (1962). His graduation thesis
was Kur'an'da Ben-i İsrail (Israelis
in the Koran). After he graduated from the faculty, he worked as a teacher of
religion and morality in Elazığ, Balıkesir, Amasya and İznik High Schools from
1962 and retired in 1989. He is a member of the Professional Association of Scientific and Literary
Work Owners of Turkey, the Writers Union of Turkey and the
Turkish Folkloric Research Institution. He continues his studies in Gemlik,
Bursa.
His
first article, Kendimize Dönelim (Let’s
Return to Ourselves), was published in the review Orkun in 1962. Afterwards, he had his poems and articles published
in the reviews and newspapers Erciyes
(1983-95), Güneyde Kültür (1992-95), Ozan (1992-95), Yeni Soluk (1992-95), Bizim
Ece ve Bizim Kuşak (1992-95), Ümit (1992-95) etc. and in numerous
anthologies. His two poems were set to music in the style of Turkish classical
music by Münir Salman. He won the first prize in the poetry contest on the
subject “Numan Çelebi Cihan” held by the review Emel in 1993.
