Historian and poet (b. ?,
Bitlis – d. 1520, İstanbul). He was called to the palace and taken under the
protection of Sultan Bayezid II whose attention he attracted by a letter he
wrote when he was the Divan*clerk of Yakup (the son of Uzun Hasan from the
Akkoyunlu rulers). He wrote the history of the eight Ottoman Sultans and their
periods on the orders of Sultan Bayezid II.
He was commanded to give
Ottoman propaganda in Eastern Anatolia by Sultan Yavuz Selim. He played an
important role in giving the Ottomans dominance in Eastern Anatolia cities like
Cizre, Siirt, Hasankeyf, Diyarbakır, Bitlis and Mardin. İdris-i Bitlisî, who
wrote poems in three languages, is known better for his history titled Heşt
Bihişt (Eight Heavens).

Heşt Bihiş (The Meaning of Eight
Heavens, written in Persian on the request of Bayezid II in the form of 80
thousand verses. It was translated into Turkish by Abdülbaki Sadi from Van, in
1733, but it not published.), Mir’atül-Uşşak (The Mirror of the Lovers),
Bahariye (Spring, kaside*), Hasaniye (Hasaniye, kaside*).
His history and his other works were not printed.
