Poet and writer, educator and
encyclopedist (b. 1889, İstanbul - d. 29 October 1949, Ankara). After attending Vefa and
Trabzon High Schools, he graduated from İstanbul School of Law (1910). After
studying pedegogy and psychology in Switzerland (1913-1916) where he was sent
by Ministry of National Education, he served as teacher for ten years in
İstanbul Advanced Teacher Training School and member of Board of Education of
Ministry of National Education and inspector (1939). He entered politics and
became the deputy of Sivas in 1927, of Sinop 1932 and İstanbul (1939). After
1946, he served as the general secretary of Türk Ansiklopedisi (Turkish
Encyclopedia), member of the Institute
of Agricultural Equipment and Agriculture Bank Direction Council.
His first poems in
metrics were published in the review Serveti
Fünûn. He was seen in National Literature Movement with his poems in verse
published in Yeni Mecmua (1917-18).
Gövsa, who wrote an elegy named Tavaf
(Circumambulation) about the death of Atatürk, was interested in studies of
history of literature in his recent days and published less poems in metrics.
In addition, he wrote articles on various issues in the review 7 Gün, humorous articles in different
reviews and anectodes in the newspaper Hürriyet.
He was burried in Ankara, Cebeci Graveyard.
