While studying at university, he published the review (1956-60) with his friends. He worked as editor at the Varlık Publishing House. He was also editor at the Cem Publishing House and at the newspaper Cumhuriyet (1960-81). He worked at Karacan Publications (1981-82). He managed Uğrak Publishing House, which he founded. After retiring, he undertook the management of the review Varlık (1983-90). He was the second president of Writers Syndicate of Turkey (1999-2000). He published his books at Yordam Publishing House, which he also established (1989-2000).

From 1951 his poems and from 1952 his short stories were published in the reviews, Kaynak, Seçilmiş Hikâyeler, a, Şiir Sanatı, Yeni Dergi, Yeni Edebiyat, Yeni a and Milliyet-Sanat. He published the review Şiir Sanatı (1966-68, 20 issues). He was among the founders and writers of the review Yeni a Dergisi that he and his friends started to republish in 1972. He focused on political and current events in the poems he wrote when he was part of the literary movement “Second New”. He collected the Turkish Language Association 1976 Poetry Award with his book, Sen de Katılmalısın Yaşamı Savunmaya (You Must Join to Defence the Life, too), the Ömer Faruk Toprak Poetry Award in 1982 with his work, Kimlikleriniz Lütfen (Your Papers Please), the 1991 Yunus Nadi Poetry Award with his book İnsan Yüzünün Tarihinden Bir Cümle (A Sentence from the History of Man’s Face), the 1993 Ferit Oğuz Bayır Philosophy and Art Award with his book Bir Adı Gurbet (Exile is Its Other Name), the 1999 Damar Review Literature Work Award, the 2000 Troy Culture and Art Award and the 2001 Dionysus Poetry Award. He published the poetry anthology prepared by Asım Bezirci, Dünden Bugüne Türk Şiiri (Turkish Poetry From Past to Present) by extending it to 5 volumes.

The poems he wrote in his first and third books with a new point of view and consequently with a new artistic point of view after he was involved in the movement “Second New” had various results. He aimed at reflecting social and political events and the reactions, emotions and attitudes of people against these events in a period that can be defined as socialist realism. This trend that is dominant in the 4 books he published between 1970-80 reached new dimensions and while his general attitude didn’t change, his area of interest spread. Several themes in his work can be seen, Araya Giren Görüntüler (Interfering Images), psychological witness and questioning; in Sınırlamıyor Beni Sevda (Love Does Not Confine Me), sociological comment on love; in Bir Adı Gurbet (Exile is Its Other Name), the problem of identity and the destiny of people who have been oppressed and have suffered; in Oğulları Öldürülen Analar (Mothers Whose Sons were Killed), the sociological accumulation of what mothers experienced because of their sons’ deaths and in Onların Sesleriyle Bir Kez Daha (Once More with Their Voices), the re-telling of pain following an severe period of restriction.
