Mahmut Yesari

Novelist (b. 5 May 1895, İstanbul – d. 16 August 1945). He is son of Colonel Fahrettin Bey. He was sent to Academy of Fine Arts when his skill was noticed during his education at İstanbul High School (1914). However, he went to Çanakkale Front as a reserve conscript officer when World War I broke out. After the war, he worked as a journalist in İstanbul. He earned his living writing for many reviews and newspapers. He died because of tuberculosis at Yakacık Sanatorium. He was buried in family cemetery.

His caricatures, humorous articles, theater reviews and short stories were published in the reviews Gıdık (1910), Diken (1918-19), Yarın (1921-22), Kelebek (1923-24) that he published with Reşat Nuri Güntekin and mostly in the review Yedigün (since 1934). He became known for his short stories, plays and novels, mainly the novel Çoban Yıldızı (Venus, 1925), that were written with a clear language.
