Ertuğrul Yaman

Researcher of linguistics and literature (b. 9 April 1962, Yazıbağı village / Tokat). He attended Yazıbağı Village Primary School and graduated from Tokat Gazi Osman Paşa High School (1980) and Ankara University, Faculty of Language, History and Geography (1985). His master’s thesis was on Türkçede Zaman Kaymaları ve Fonksiyon Değişmeleri (Time Shifts and Function Changes in Turkish - 1990) and his PhD thesis Özbek Türkçesi ve Türkiye Türkçesinin Söz Dizimi Bakımından Karşılaştırılması (Comparison of Uzbek Turkish with the Turkish of Turkey in Relation to Syntax, 1994). He worked as a lecturer at Atatürk University (1985-86), Ankara University, Faculty of Language, History and Geography (1986-97) and is still working as the Chairman of the General Sciences Department at Gazi University, Faculty of Vocational Education (1998).

His first article (Yabancı Diller Karşısında Türkçenin Durumu (The Situation of Turkish Against Foreign Languages) was published in the review Millî Eğitim in 1989. His other articles have been published in the reviews Millî Kültür, Türk Dili, Türk Edebiyatı, Türk Yurdu, Türk Kültürü, Diyanet, Türk Yurdu, Türk Dünyası, Avrasya Etüdleri, Ahi Dost, Sosyal Bilimlerde Araştırma, Dil Dergisi, Türk Dünyası Araştırmaları, Anayurttan Atayurda Türk Dünyası etc. He has written more than one hundred articles that have been published in reviews and newspapers in Turkey and Uzbekistan. He has also given papers on the Uzbek language at symposiums and congresses on linguistics. He has contributed to volumes related to the Uzbek language in the “Anthology of Turkish Literature outside Turkey” published by the Ministry of Culture. He won the International Mahmud Kaşgarî Language Award of the Writers Union of Uzbekistan with his work “Uzbek – Turkish and Turkish – Uzbek Dictionary” in 1993. He is a member of Writers Union of Turkey and the Turkic World Writers and Artists Foundation.
