Researcher
of literature and folklore (b. May 1952, Acıyurt village / Sivas). He used pen
name as “Mahcubi”. He attended Sivas Dört Eylül Primary School, Atatürk
Secondary School, Sivas High School and graduated from Istanbul University,
Faculty of Literature, Department of Turkish Language and Literature (1974). He
worked as literature teacher in the high schools in Sivas, Diyarbakır, Aksaray
ve İstanbul. He entered as Folklore Specialist to Cumhuriyet University as
passing the exam in 1983. He did his master with the thesis "Mahmut ile Nigâr Hikâyesi Üzerinde
Mukayeseli Bir İnceleme" (A
Comparative Study on the Short Story of “Mahmut and Nigar”) in 1988, and his
doctorate with the thesis "Sivas'ta
Âşıklık Geleneği ve Âşık Ruhsatî" (The Tradition of Minstrels in Sivas and Aşık Ruhsati) in 1991 in
Cumhuriyet University, Institute of Social Sciences. He worked as lecturer in
Kırgystan-Turkey Manas University, Department of Turcology in the academic year
2002-2003. He has still been working as lecturer in Cumhuriyet University,
Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Turkish Language and Literature. He
is a member of the Professional Association of Scientific and Literary Work
Owners of Turkey, Writers Union of Turkey and Folklore Research Institute.
He began his publishing life in the review Türk Folklor Araştırmaları (İstanbul) in 1972. Then, his one hundred and eighty
two articles on folklore and literature were published in the reviews Sivas
Folkloru (Sivas), Türk Folkloru (İstanbul), Halk Kültürü
(İstanbul), Erciyes (Kayseri), Sivas Kültür-Sanat (Sivas), Dolunay
(Kahramanmaraş), Halay (Ankara), Güneyde Kültür (Hatay), Millî
Folklor (Ankara), Türk Folklorundan Derlemeler (Ankara), Türk
Folkloru Araştırmaları (Ankara), Revak (Sivas), Kızılırmak (Sivas),
Kızılırmak (Ankara) Altıncı Şehir (Ankara) ve Folklor ve
Edebiyat (Ankara). After 1984, he has participated to sixty two national
and international congress and symposium related with his field. He directed
many graduate and post graduate thesis. He wrote prologs to the books about
minstrel literature. Furthermore, he wrote more than one hundred encyclopedia
entries for Türk Dünyası Edebiyatçıları
Ansiklopedisi (Encyclopedia of Turkic World Literature), Türk Dünyası Edebiyatı Tarihi’ (History
of Literature of Turkic World) and Edebiyat
Kavramları ve Terimleri Ansiklopedik Sözlüğü (Encyclopedic Dictionary of Literature Concepts and Terms) which were
prepared by Atatürk Culture Center.
He generally wrote his poems in themes of love,
mysticism and national feelings. He received the İhsan Hınçer Service to
Turkish Folklore Award of Folklore Research Institution in 1991 and Folklore
Research and Encouragement Award from Motif Folk Dances Youth Club in 2001.
