Educator, writer and respected teacher
(b. 1895, İstanbul - d. 1974). He is the son of Ankara Judge İsmail Abdülhalim
Efendi and brother of literature historian Fahir İz. He attended completed his
high school education in Midilli, Balıkesir, Isparta, Medina, İstanbul and
Ankara high schools. He graduated from Ankara Sultan’s School Department of
Literature. He worked as clerk of minutes of the First Grand National Assembly
and as teacher in İstanbul Imam-Hatip School. He studied in the faculty of Chemistry
for two years and faculty of Law for one year. He graduated from the Faculty of
Letters (1936). He gave literature lessons in Haydarpaşa High School, oratory,
irşad* and mystic literature history lessons in İstanbul Higher Institute of
Islam.
He is one of the persons famous in the
field of Islamic sciences and mystic literature. A large group of intellectuals
participated in his conversations and tried to benefit from him. He published
his articles and poems in Sa'y (Ankara), Sebilürreşad,
Yeni İstiklal, İslâm Düşüncesi, Bugün, Yeni Asya, Sabah, Yeni İstanbul journals
and newspapers using the pen name Maksud Kâmuran. He simplified Kısas-ı Enbiya ve Tevarih-i Hulefa of
Ahmed Cevdet Paşa in his last years. He chaired the reduction board of the Interpretation of Koran, which was had
prepared by the Department of Religious Affairs.
