Poet and writer (b. 1917, Ogarı Çegem / Caucasus – d. 1985). He was educated according to the habit of Karaçay – Balkar Turks. His first poem was published in 1934. He studied in Moscow State Institute of Theater and Institute of Literature. Even if he began to teach in 1940 in Nalchik, at the same year he joined Russian Army and fought as a parachutist in World War II. Then the exile decision was approved with the press of Stalin System (1944), he preferred to go to exile with other Balkar Turks although he has a private permission. He lived difficult and troublesome days in Kyrgyzstan. However in 1957 he turned back with his public to Caucasus. Kuliev who lived rest of his life which was full of bittersweet memoir died in his motherland was interred his garden where is a Museum now.

Poems of him who wrote more than 100 books in Balkar Turkish and Russian were translated in 120 languages. Between 1960 and 80 his poems which were translated especially in Spanish attract great attention. Kulive’s book which were published with great circulation, for example his last three book (Yeşil Masal, İyi Niyetli Karınca, Sabah Masalı -Green Fairy-Tale, Ant who Intends to do good things, Morning Fairy-Tale) were published in Russia with 5 millions circulations. He collected Maxim Gorky Award in 1966, Soviets Union Award in 1974 and Lenin Award in 1990. He had the title of Republic of Kabardino – Balkar State Artist.

Kaysın Kuliev’s first book Yaralı Tas (Wounded Stone) was translated by Kanşaubiy Miziev, second book called Kaysın Kuliev / Kafkas Şiirleri (Kaysın Kuliev / Caucasus Poems) was translated in Turkish by Kanşaubiy Miziev - Ahmet Necdet and were published.
