Writer
(b. 1952, Kayırlı / Niğde - d. 7 January 2023, Köln / Deutchland). He attended primary school in his village and
graduated from Kayseri İmam Hatip High School (1974). He studied at the
Departments of English Language and Literature and American Language and
Literature (1975-79). He worked at the Department of Religious Affairs
(1972-74), the Provincial Bank (1974-76), and the Turkish Agricultural Supply
Department (1976-78), as chief editor at Mila News Agency (1978-79) and as a
translator at the State Planning Organization (1979-82). He was general
editor-in-chief and owner of Aylık Review and Publications (1978-88),
Eksen Publications and the monthly review Meydan.
His stories essays and critiques were published under his
real name and pen names in Edebiyat (1976), Aylık, which he
founded (1978-88) and Meydan (1989). He attracted attention with his
brave and original approach in his works on contemporary subjects, essays and
critiques. The review Aylık was important because it introduced young
poets and writers to the general public. Yaşar Kaplan, who was arrested under
article 163 of the Turkish Criminal Code due to four different articles he
published, was sentenced to six years and three month in prison and because of
his essay book, Demokrasi Risalesi (Treatise of Democracy, 1985), he was
imprisoned for three years. Before he moved to Germany, he was a columnist at Akit
newspaper.
