Writer (b. 9 October 1862, İstanbul – d. 13 July 1936). She was the elder daughter of Ahmet Cevdet Paşa, the famous historian and statesman. She was known to be our first woman novelist. She was brought up with private education. She took up writing with her sister Emine Seniye. In Hanımlara Mahsus Gazete (Newspaper for Woman) and other magazines of the era she wrote with the pen name "Bir Hanım" (A Lady). She also made translations from French and conductes surveys on history. She moved to Aleppo with her family, as her father was appointed there. She wrote her fameous novel Udî (the Ud Player) in Aleppo. Her other works were considered to be timeless.

NOVEL: Muhâderât (Virtuous Ladies, 1892), Refet (Refet, 1898), Udî (the Ud Player, 1898; new edition, 2002), Enin (Enin, incomplete novel, 1898), Hayal ve Hakikât (Dream and Reality, in collaboration with Ahmet Mithat, translated by Yahya Bostan, 2002).

Besides, she translated some works from French.
