Poet (b. ?, İstanbul – d. 1824). He became the Keeper of the Wardrobe to
Sultan Süleyman after having studied at palace for a time. He was employed in
the women’s apartments at the palace by Mustafa IV and was appointed as trustee
of the Sultan Süleyman Pious Foundations in Bolayır after working in various
posts such as principal teacher of the sultan, head butler and chief servant of
table napkins. He abandoned the traditional divan* form and used folk language
and the themes of daily life in his poetry, which was deemed an innovation at
that time. However, with respect to artistry, his poetry did not reach the
mastery of other divan* poets. His Divan* was first published in Egypt (1841)
and then in İstanbul.
