Journalist-writer (B. September 6, 1911, Istanbul – D.
May 26, 1994). He completed his primary and secondary education in Galatasaray High School
(1933) and his higher education in Istanbul
University, Faculty of
Law (1936). He began with his journalism career publishing the Akademi journal when he was a student
(1930) and he continued working at Zaman
newspaper published by his uncle Velid Ebüzziya (1934) and in several other
newspapers and journals. He has also used pseudonyms such as Zahit Turhan,
Selim Sabit. He published newspapers such as Tasvir-i Efkâr (1940-46), Tasvir
(1945-49), Son Saat (1946-50) of which he was the head writer. He
was among the founders of Democrat Party. He was a candidate in 1946 elections
from Konya, but
he could not be elected.
He went into the Parliament in 1950 and 1954 elections
as Konya
deputy. He joined the “19s Movement”, left DP and became one of the founders
and administrators of Hürriyet Partisi (1955-1958). He worked in the Council of
Europe (1950-1958), Union of European Parliament Members (1950-1957) and
Council of Europe Development Fund Representative of Turkey (1958-1960). He was a member
of Justice Party during its existence (1964-1980). Ziyad Ebüzziya is among the
founders and first members of Board of Trustees of Middle East Technical
University (1955-1960); and he worked as History and Turkish teacher at Istanbul Robert
College (1938-1943), as a lecturer at Istanbul University,
Press Vocational School (1984-1994). His
articles were published in Zaman
newspaper in his final years (1987-1994).
