Zeynel Beksaç

Ressam, Müzisyen, Şair

Poet, musician, painter (b. 1952, Prizren / Kosovo).  After he completed high school in his hometown, he studied at the School of Law for some time. Leaving his studies, he began to work at the newspaper Tan.  Interested in painting and music apart from journalism, he was one of the founders of the music group Yeşil Turnalar Bağlamalar Ekibi (Green Cranes Folk Instrument Group), which began performing in 1969; he managed this group for nine years.  He collected folk songs sung in Prizren and composed original musical works. He became the editor-in-chief of the journals Doğru yol and Çığ that he published with a few friends of his in 1971.  He prepared culture and art related programs on Pristina Television from 1980.

Tan Publishing in Kosovo selected his poetry book Çetrefil Sevda (Complicated Love) as book of the year in 1990.  He has concentrated on drawing and oil painting in more recent years.  His poems have been published in journals and anthologies in various languages in Yugoslavia and in many journals in Turkey.  He publishes a children’s journal called Türkçem (My Turkish) in Prizren.  He received the Special Poetry Award from the journal Temmuz (İzmir) in 1987.
