Vocal artist. Born on the 19th
of September 1933 in Istanbul.
She graduated from primary school in Istanbul
and secondary school in Ankara
since her father was a merchant. She decided to be closely interested in music
since her mother and her aunt played piano and oud and listening to songs of
Müzeyyen Senar and Münir Nurettin Selçuk during that time. After graduating
from secondary school she took the exam of Ankara Radio in 1947. She was
elected among two hundred people together with Berrin Erbay (Kurt), Mefharet
Atalay, Hüseyin Ayman, Muzaffer Birtan and Behzat Doğu and entered Ankara
Radio. In 1948 she started to work as an intern. Although she took the exam in
the Turkish music branch, her teacher Muzaffer Sarısözen considered her in the
choir of sounds from homeland, folk music. Sarısözen saw that in the next years
that her guttural structure was not inclined and she was reluctant, so he
directed her to Turkish music branch. She became an assistant repeater in
Ankara Radio where she sang for nine years continuously. She married Halil
Aksoy, Turkish music instrument artist and composer in 1951. After her last
name Tetiker was changed to Aksoy she used this last name during her whole
artistic career. The couple which had a son called Ahmet Kazım
separated their ways in 1963. Later Behiye Aksoy married casino owner Fahrettin
Aslan and producer Berker İnanoğlu for short times.
Aksoy appeared in stages in Ankara Göl Gazinosu for the first time in 1958. Because of the Baghdad Pact which was signed
within the same year she held a concert of 15 days in Baghdad with a group of artists. In 1961 she
produced programs in Maksim Casino, which was opened next to the Taksim Cinema
together with Zeki Müren and Orhan Boran on a rotating basis and became one of
the first female star performers of Maksim. Later she worked for two seasons in
Tepebaşı Casino and was loved and appreciated by the public. In 1967, she acted
in the movie titled Kederli Günlerim which was directed by Orhan Elmas
and whose leading role she shared with İzzet Günay. In 1973 she acted in the
movie Falcı which carried the same name with her record which became a
bestseller. In this movie, which was directed by Ertem Göreç, she shared the
leading roles with Murat Soydan and Metin Serezli. Aksoy received the first
place in surveys of those years, which were organized by magazines such as Hey
and Ses. She received numerous awards aside from
Platin Taç Award.
